Using Pentagon as a vocoder

Pentagon is one of the included soft synths in SONAR.  It is a great analog modelling synth and perfect for learning how to create sounds on a synth. You can use it in other ways too, like a vocoder. The above video takes you through how to do just that.

Here are the important points:

  • Insert Pentagon as an audio effect on the audio track you want to vocode.
  • Route a MIDI track to Pentagon and either play in the MIDI data (via input monitoring) or have a clip or clips int he track.
  • Finally click on the Pentagon logo on the synth and turn voice modulation on.

Have fun!

SONAR Home Studio

From NAMM 2009. Here’s a demo I did on SONAR Home Studio the intro to the video covers the new USB MIDI and Audio interfaces available from Cakewalk. The video takes you through recording a guitar with the UA-1G, adding drum tracks with Studio Instruments, adding beats with the loop explorer and working with soft synths.

I made this video while on the road last year. A lot of people have found it useful so I have added it to the blog.
